Ice, Ice Baby!

The Big Picture:

Astronomers have identified for the first time a pair of stars that have "plucked" icy comets and swung them into orbits around our Sun. Astronomers have tried for years to prove these stellar dances. Now dosey doe your partners....

Deets for the Astronomy Geeks

Astronomers at the Institute Astronomical Observatory at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland--Rita Wysoczańska, Piotr A. Dybczyński, and Małgorzata Królikowska--found the stellar duo after studying the movements of nearly 650 stars that came within 13 light-years of the sun. Their work will be published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
