Senate Passes NDAA, Major Cuts to NASA and Space Force Funding

The Big Picture:

Yesterday, the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2020, which included the budgets for the new U.S. Space Force and NASA. The Department of Defense had requested $72 million for the Space Force, which was authorized by the Act, but received only $40 million in spending. Meanwhile, NASA received $22.6 billion in funding. It had requested $1.6 billion to go to the Artemis lunar project to land a human on the Moon by 2024. It only received $600,000 in funding for Artemis and is not likely to make that 2024 deadline. Bummer. Read the breakdown here.
